North Vernon Man Killed In Single Vehicle Crash

Last updated on Friday, January 20, 2017

(BUTLERVILLE) - Thursday, just after 8 am, the Indiana State Police responded to a single vehicle crash on U.S. 50 near County Road 400 North in Jennings County that claimed the life of a North Vernon man.

The initial investigation by Trooper Jacob Tolle indicated that a 2002 Pontiac Grand Am being driven by 25-year-old Christian B. Nolan, of North Vernon, was traveling eastbound on U.S. 50 when the vehicle left the south side of the road for an unknown reason. After leaving the roadway, the vehicle became airborne, ejecting Nolan from the vehicle. The vehicle struck an embankment and rolled before coming to a stop.

Nolan sustained fatal injuries in the crash. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Jennings County Coroner's Office. Troopers say they don't believe Nolan was wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash.

The eastbound lanes of U.S. 50 were closed for approximately three hours during the crash investigation and cleanup.

Trp. Tolle was assisted by Troopers Brent Lykins, Matt Holley, and Christopher Lockman. He was also assisted by the Jennings County Sheriff's Department, Jennings County Coroner's Office, Jennings County EMS, Campbell Township Fire Department, and Lee's Wrecker Service.
