(INDIANAPOLIS) - The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) Drill Team of Indianapolis announced yesterday their participation in President-Elect Donald J. Trump's inauguration in January of 2017.

"We are extremely excited and honored to be participating in this monumental and history making event," said Jeff Cardwell, Co-President of the IMPD Drill team. "Indianapolis' own active duty officers will perform in the Presidential Inaugural Parade as Goodwill Ambassadors of Law Enforcement."

Twenty one (21) motorcycles will perform, making President-Elect Trump's Inauguration the seventh inauguration the IMPD Drill Team has performed in. The first Inaugural parade the IMPD Drill Team was in 1961 for President John F. Kennedy.

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Motorcycle Drill Team performs in parades, at schools, children's hospitals, nursing homes, and other worthy events. Each year, thousands of people throughout Central Indiana and across the country experience the thrill of seeing the Team perform. Expenses are funded by donations from individuals and businesses in Indianapolis and around the country. They currently ride Harley Davidson Road King Police Motorcycles.

These motorcycles are assigned to the officer and are used in their daily traffic enforcement duties. The Drill Team executes a multitude of precise and difficult drills requiring months of practice and choreography. The thrilling performances require both concentration and athletic ability to maneuver the 800 pound precision machines. While performing, twelve motorcycles carry a letter so officers can position to spell 'Indianapolis' or 'Indiana'.

For the past 60 years, the IMPD Motorcycle Drill Team has been one of the top goodwill ambassadors for the City of Indianapolis, the State of Indiana and law enforcement around the country. With continual community support, the Drill Team will continue to strengthen the relationship between law enforcement and the public it serves, building better communities in which to live, work, and raise a family.
