Minor Collision Occurs Between School Bus And Passenger Car

(SULLIVAN CO.) - This morning at 8:06 a.m., Indiana State Police Troopers responded to a minor crash involving a Northeast School Corporation bus and passenger car on US 41 at County Road 975 North, near the entrance to North Central Jr-Sr High School. There were no injuries reported.

Preliminary investigation revealed a 2016 International school bus, driven by 66-year-old Daryl Drake, of Farmersburg, was entering the congested intersection eastbound and attempting a left turn to proceed northbound on US 41. At the same time, 17-year-old Kaytlynn Emberton of Sullivan, driving her 1998 Pontiac Grand Prix, was northbound in the US 41 inner turning lane, attempting to make a left turn and proceed westbound into the school parking area. The two vehicles collided with the left rear of the school bus striking the left rear of the passenger car.

There were 18 elementary students on board. The students were not injured and safely transferred to another school bus to complete their trip to Northeast Elementary School in nearby Farmersburg.

The Northeast School Corporation superintendent and various other staff were on-scene assisting. All parents of the affected students were notified of the incident.

No citations were issued.
