Man In Critical Condition After Shooting Self In Face, Three Arrested

(BRAZIL) - Police were called to Coalmount Thursday morning after a report of a shooting.

They soon learned that 41-year-old William Hiatt has shot himself in the face. According to a police report, Hiatt was flown by medical helicopter to Eskenazi Hospital, He is listed in critical condition.

Around 4:49 a.m. Thursday, the Clay County Sheriff's Office was called to 6426 W. Public St. in Coalmont after a report of a shooting.

Clay County Sheriff Department and Indiana State Police investigators later determined the "incident was self-inflicted and there is believed to be no other suspects at this time," according to the news release.

Three people were arrested on charges of false informing and obstruction of justice for their involvement.

Police arrested 21-year-old Kenneth Lion, 40-year-old Brandy Hicks (Campbell) and 29-year-old Desiree Witfield who were at the home during the incident; however, authorities did not release what led to those charges.

"Although the investigation is still ongoing reports will be submitted to the Clay County Prosecutor's Office for further review," the report states. "Additional charges may be filed at a later time."

Assisting were the Jasonville Police Department, CARE Ambulance, Air Evac and the Lewis Volunteer Fire Department.
