ISP Trooper And Suspect Injured In Police Action Shooting

(PUTNAMVILLE CO.) - Detectives from the Criminal Investigation Division at the Putnamville Post are currently investigating a police action shooting at 4449 East County Road 375 South near Greencastle.

The incident left a Cloverdale Police Officer and a suspect wounded.

The suspect, Jeffrey P. Hunter, remains hospitalized in an Indianapolis hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound to the torso.

At approximately 4:07 p.m. Saturday the 27-year-old Cloverdale officer Luke Brown, was taken to a Terre Haute hospital and is being treated for non-life threatening shotgun wounds suffered during the exchange of gunfire with the suspect while investigating a theft complaint.

Brown was wearing a ballistic vest at the time that undoubtedly saved his life.

After the exchange of gunfire and while wounded, Officer Brown performed medical treatment on the Huntert until arrival of Putnam County Operation Life paramedics.

The lead ISP detectives are Don Curtis and 1st Jason Fajt. Assisting were other ISP detectives and troopers, Putnam County Sheriff Scotty Stockton and deputies, Greencastle Police Chief Tom Sutherland and officers, Acting Cloverdale Police Chief Charlie Hallam, Putnam County Operation Life, Fillmore Fire/Rescue.

ISP Detectives and Crime Scene Investigators are currently gathering evidence, along with the Putnam County Sheriff's Office. Once the on-scene investigation is complete, the information will be submitted to Putnam County Prosecutor Tim Bookwalter for potential charges.
