Grant Money To Provide More Propane School Buses In Indiana

Last updated on Friday, December 2, 2016

(INDIANAPOLIS) - More than 50 school buses across Indiana will run on propane thanks to a state grant worth more than $140,000.

The Indiana Office of Energy Development made the announcement Wednesday. It's the office's second grant specifically designated for propane school buses. The money will go to six public school corporations in the state: Avon, DeKalb County, Wayne Township in Marion County, Southwest Allen County and the Tippecanoe and West Noble school corporations. The buses are split among the school districts.

State officials say the cleaner-burning fuel will decrease children's exposure to particulate matter and lower maintenance costs.

Grant recipient schools must track miles driven, fuel usage and cost savings for one year to help them, their communities and their peers to better understand fueling options.
