(UNDATED) - A new study says driving drowsy is just as dangerous as driving drunk.

The AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety says drivers were 1.3-times more likely to be in an accident if they missed one hour of sleep, and almost twice as likely if they missed two of the seven hours recommended daily.

The CDC says close to one-third of U.S. drivers get under seven hours of sleep each night.

The AAA says drivers should take frequent breaks, trade off with other drivers and avoid heavy food and medications that cause drowsiness.
