Last updated on Thursday, December 15, 2016

(RISING SUN) - Tuesday morning, at approximately 7 am, the Indiana State Police and Ohio County Sheriff’s Department responded to a two vehicle crash on State Road 56 just south of Rising Sun, that claimed the life of a Milan High School student.

The initial investigation by Trooper Matt Holley indicated that a 1990 Chevrolet truck being driven by Dylan K. Levi, age 16, Rising Sun, Indiana was traveling southbound on State Route 56, approximately one mile south of Rising Sun. For an unknown reason, Levi's vehicle crossed the centerline into the path of a northbound 2005 Dodge Neon being driven by Micayla D. Acra, age 17, Milan, Indiana. The vehicles collided head on at that location.

Acra, who was a Milan High School student, sustained fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Ohio County Coroner's Office. Levi, who is a student at Rising Sun High School, sustained minor injuries in the collision. He was treated and released at a local hospital.

The investigation into the cause of the collision is ongoing. Roadways were wet at the time of the collision and may have been a contributing factor in the crash. Levi submitted to a drug and alcohol test at a local hospital although drug and alcohol use is not suspected at this time.

State Road 56 was closed for approximately three and a half hours for crash investigation and cleanup.

Trp. Holley was assisted by the Ohio County Sheriff's Department, Rising Sun Fire Department, Ohio County EMS, and the Ohio County Coroner's Office.
