(STATEHOUSE) - Senator-elect Eric Koch (R-Bedford) took the oath of office today, officially becoming the State Senator representing District 44. Koch, along with eight other new members of the Senate, was sworn in by Indiana Supreme Court Chief Justice Loretta Rush.

Koch will serve all of Brown and Lawrence Counties and parts of Bartholomew, Jackson and Monroe counties. He fills the Senate seat previously held by State Sen. Brent Steele.

"I am looking forward to working with my new Senate colleagues," Koch said. "It has been a privilege to serve in the House of Representatives, and I look forward to bringing that experience to the Senate as I step into my new role as Senator representing District 44."

Koch served District 65 in the House of Representatives from 2002 until his election to the Indiana State Senate this November. During his tenure in the House of Representatives, Koch received numerous accolades for his legislative work including the 2016 Champion of Justice Award from the Indiana Judges Association and the 2015 Outstanding Achievement in State Tax Reform from the Tax Foundation.

Koch and his wife Connie reside in Bedford and have three sons, Jordan, Spencer and Hunter. He is a graduate of Georgetown University and the Indiana University School of Law, and is an attorney in private practice with offices in Bedford and Bloomington.

Residents in Senate District 44 can contact Koch by telephone at 317-232-9400, by email at Senator.Koch@iga.in.gov or by mail at 200 W. Washington St., Indianapolis, IN 46204. His virtual office can be found online at www.IndianaSenateRepublicans.com/Koch.

Koch was sworn in on Organization Day, the ceremonial start of the 2017 legislative session.

The upcoming session is a budget year, meaning lawmakers will craft a comprehensive plan to fund state government services for the next two years. The 2017 legislative session will reconvene on Jan. 3, and, by law, must be completed no later than April 29.
