Hunter Taken By Air Evac To Evansville Hospital After Tree Stand Fall

(PIKE CO.) - Indiana Conservation Officers are investigating a tree stand accident that left an Evansville man with wrist, ankle, head and facial injuries.

According to police, 53-year-old Andrew Schuler, of Evansville, was deer hunting when he fell approximately sixteen feet from a tree stand. A hunting partner heard him call for help and found him lying on the ground.

Schuler was stabilized and flown by Air Evac LifeTeam to St. Mary's Hospital in Evansville for treatment. Police say his injuries are non-life threatening.

Schuler believes he briefly passed out while sitting in the stand causing him to his lose his balance. He was not wearing a safety harness at the time.

The accident was called into Pike County Dispatch at 8:45 a.m Sunday.

Responding agencies included Spurgeon Volunteer Fire Department, Lockhart Township Fire Department, Pike County EMS, Air Evac Life Team and Indiana Conservation Officers.
