East Chicago Man Convicted Of Attempted Murder, Sentenced To 90 Years

Last updated on Monday, November 28, 2016

(LAFAYETTE) - An East Chicago man convicted of attempted murder and weapons charges in shootings that injured two adults has been sentenced to 92 years in prison.

The (Lafayette) Journal & Courier reports prosecuting attorney Jennifer Keifer said during the sentencing Wednesday that 32-year-old Hirman Eugene Jackson emptied a handgun into a car full of five people on February 12, leaving one many paralyzed on the left side of his body. A 2-year-old also sustained cuts and abrasions from broken glass.

A jury convicted Jackson in September, while Judge Thomas Busch found him guilty on two remaining weapons charges during an October bench trial.

In a pre-sentence report, Jackson reportedly told investigators that he "was the victim" and that people in the car were trying to rob him.
