Death Investigation Underway In Johnson County

Last updated on Monday, November 7, 2016

(GREENWOOD) - A Greenwood man whom police say was involved in a traffic incident Thursday night that ended with him being administered Narcan, has died.

The Johnson County Sheriff's Department says that 23-year-old Corey Hillis was found, laying face-down near a pond in the Willow Lakes subdivision.

The Sheriff's Department says that just after 8:30 a.m., deputies went to a different subdivision when an officer was flagged down by a woman. She then informed him of the body near 2603 Willow Lake Drive. Medics arrived moments later and declared Hillis dead.

Deputies had interacted with Hillis the night before. Just after 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, they were called about a driver in a flat-bed truck driving erratically and then colliding with three other vehicles at the intersection of State Road 37 and Fairview Road.

When deputies arrived at the scene, they found Hillis slumped over the steering wheel of the truck. Deputies administered Narcan and revived Hillis, who was taken to Johnson Memorial Hospital for treatment.

During the investigation, deputies reportedly found text messages they indicated Hillis was under the influence of drugs at the time of the crash. They also reported finding a pill bottle containing marijuana.

Johnson County authorities say that the Thursday night's incident and Hillis' death are not believed to be related.
