Death Investigation Starting at Kingsbury Fish And Wildlife Area Results In Homicide Arrest

(LaPORTE) - Sheriff's detectives and investigators from the Department of Natural Resources Law Enforcement Division along with the Goshen Police worked through the weekend on the case and after identifying the victim as Mark Huber from Goshen, Indiana they were joined by detectives from the Goshen City Police Department.

On Monday a forensic autopsy was performed in Valparaiso. The result of the autopsy was that Mark Huber died from a gunshot wound to the head and the manner of death was homicide.

During the course of the joint investigation a suspect was developed. Monday evening the suspect, Scott Irvin, was charged with murder in Elkhart County. Investigators have determined that the victim was killed in Goshen and his body was transported to the Kingsbury Fish and Wildlife area where it was concealed in a sewer line that was accessed by a manhole cover.

The victim was found by an employee of the Kingsbury Utility Corporation on Friday morning as he performing a routine weekly maintenance check.

La Porte County Sheriff John Boyd praised the efforts of the detectives in this case from the DNR, Goshen Police as well as his department.

"This investigation began during the holiday weekend while most people were enjoying the company of family and friends," Sheriff Boyd says. "The detectives on this case worked nearly around the clock, pursuing leads, meeting with family members of the victim and conducting interviews. Crime scene investigators spent the entire day processing the scene and stayed literally until dark on Friday. We could not be more proud of our detectives, particularly as the worked side by side with detectives from the DNR and Goshen Police. I have every confidence that this case was quickly resolved due to the perseverance and dedication of all involved."
