Last updated on Monday, November 7, 2016

(VIGO CO.) - Friday at 3:30 p.m., acting on information received from the Pennsylvania State Police, Indiana State Police located a 13-year-old runaway girl from Easton, Pennsylvania at the Terre Haute bus station near 9th and Cherry Streets.

The runaway was reportedly on a westbound commercial bus en route to the state of California and scheduled to make an afternoon stop at the Terre Haute bus station.

ISP Trooper Nicole Cheeks and officers from the Indiana State University Police Department went to the bus station and located the girl unharmed and traveling alone on the bus. She was taken into custody without incident and incarcerated in the Vigo County Juvenile Center awaiting arrival of Pennsylvania State Police Troopers who will return the runaway to her Pennsylvania home.

The young girl was reportedly having family issues and during her difficulties, met another person online that identified themselves as a 15-year-old girl. The friendship evolved into the Pennsylvania teen traveling to the Los Angeles area of California to establish residence with the person. There is no other information about the relationship or travel arrangements known to ISP. Any other inquiries should be directed to the Pennsylvania State Police.

The Indiana State Police would like to take this opportunity to remind teenagers and adults alike about the dangers of online communications with an unknown person and any subsequent meetings with the unknown individual. Your personal safety or life could very well be in danger.
