(UNDATED) - Verizon and the Indiana Coalition Against Domestic Violence (ICADV) are partnering this month to distribute educational materials statewide to encourage safe, stable nurturing relationships and environments, part of a larger federal initiative to create healthier environments for children.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, intimate partner violence is a serious, preventable public health problem that affects millions of Americans. To create a healthy relationship strategy, the CDC is granting funds to domestic violence coalitions in 10 states to launch prevention initiatives to stop domestic violence before it begins. ICADV is one of those recipients.

"Our goal is to encourage families and communities to create environments where children grow up free from fear and secure from physical or psychological harm," said ICADV Executive Director Laura Berry. "Small moments in a child's life can prevent future violence."

Verizon's $35,000 grant is the start of a yearlong project by the coalition to reach 60,000 individuals directly through print materials and a wider population with a 60-second televised and online Public Service Announcement. All ICADV organizations that provide domestic violence services in Indiana will receive the materials to distribute in their local communities.

"Verizon's relationship with the coalition makes it possible to have a broad reach during Domestic Violence Awareness Month in October," said John Granby, Verizon Great Lakes market president. "These materials will be shared with health care providers, businesses, churches and sporting teams - all chosen because of the influence and presence in our local communities."
