(FARMLAND) - Indiana Conservation Officers are investigating a fall from a tree stand that occurred in Randolph County in the early morning hours Saturday.
At approximately 7:45 a.m.officers and EMS personnel responded to 10404 West 200 South in Farmland, and found a man lying on the ground, complaining of back pain.
The preliminary investigation revealed 31-year-old Seth Davis, of Parker City, had arrived at his tree stand to hunt whitetail deer at approximately 6:30 a.m.
Davis was wearing a full body hunter safety harness as he climbed the tree to the position of his platform. When he arrived at the platform he began to get situated and started to attach his harness to the tree.
Officers further discovered before Davis could securely attach his harness one of the ratchet straps holding the platform to the tree broke. Mr. Davis fell approximately 18 feet to the ground. Davis could not locate his cell phone to call for help for approximately one hour.
Davis was transported from the scene to IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie by Lutheran Air Ambulance. He was treated there for injuries believed to be non-life threatening and was last known to be in stable condition.
Assisting agencies on scene: Parker City Police Department and Parker City Fire Department.
Indiana Conservation Officers would like to remind the hunting public to always wear a full body harness while hunting off the ground. In addition, be sure to connect the harness to a life line system that connects the hunter to the tree while ascending or descending from the hunting platform. Lastly, it is imperative to check the straps holding a hunting platform to a tree for debris, damage, and wear/tear before putting weight on them.
