(JEFFERSONVILLE) - A southern Indiana man convicted of punching a jail officer so hard it broke his jaw in three places has been sentenced to 30 years in prison.
A jury convicted 30-year-old Raymond J. Taylor II of Jeffersonville last month of aggravated battery as a habitual offender for the June attack.
The News and Tribune reports Chief Deputy Prosecutor Tim Gray says the Clark County Jail officer suffered a permanent facial injury.
Court records state that two officers asked Taylor to stop sitting on a table in a jail common area, but he refused and struck one officer in the mouth.
The punch broke three bones in the officer's jaw, which had to be wired shut.
Gray says the officer still has a plate and six screws in his jaw.
