Indiana State Department Of Health To Hold Active Shooter Exercise Wednesday

Last updated on Wednesday, October 19, 2016

(INDIANAPOLIS) - Today, the Indiana State Department of Health (ISDH) will hold an active shooter exercise in cooperation with the Indiana State Police Emergency Response Team and the Capitol Police.

The purpose of the exercise is to provide ISDH staff the opportunity to practice how they would respond if an individual were to actively discharge a weapon in the building with the intent to commit harm. Blank cartridges could be fired as part of the drill. All Indiana State Department of Health personnel have been notified.

The training exercise is estimated to occur between 9 and 10 a.m. Once it begins, no one will be allowed to enter the ISDH building until the exercise is complete. During the exercise, employees will either shelter in designated areas or exit the building, based on the scenario of the exercise. This drill is part of the Indiana State Department of Health's proactive stance of preparing for emergency situations by conducting exercises such as fire, tornado and bomb drills.
