Fire At Indiana Furniture Industries Isolated To Drying Booth

Last updated on Monday, October 31, 2016

(DUBOIS) - A fire at the Indiana Furniture Industries factory in Dubois Thursday was isolated to a drying booth.

According to Dubois Volunteer Fire Department spokesperson, the department was called to the factor at 450 North at about 10:36 a.m.

When firefighters arrived, there was found heavy smoke coming from the ventilation system outside and smoke inside the building.

Employees at the factory had controlled the spread of the fire by discharging two fire extinguishers into the booth where the fire started. Firefighters were able to quickly extinguished the remaining fire and ventilated the booth.

The booth is used to dry furniture after a finish is applied.

Firefighters say the fire started after a piece of corrugated material that the furniture sits on as it travels through the booth or an actual piece of furniture fell off the cart as it went through the booth. The material ended up against a heat lamp which ignited it as the lamps are extremely hot.

Several pieces of furniture were destroyed or damaged and the booth is inoperable at this time.

No one was injured in the incident.

Three trucks and 12 firefighters responded to the incident and were there for about a half hour. Memorial Hospital Emergency Medical Services also responded.
