Last updated on Monday, October 17, 2016

(LAFAYETTE) - An 18-year-old man has been arrested in the shooting death of a Lafayette art teacher.

The Journal and Courier reports Darius Javon Printup was arrested early Saturday on a preliminary charge of murder and booked into the Tippecanoe County Jail.

Kristi Redmon was found dead outside her home Wednesday night after neighbors reported hearing gunshots in the area. The 52-year-old taught art at two elementary schools in Lafayette.

Police declined to release further information on the case or a possible motive. They say only that no other suspect is being sought.

Lafayette police records show Printup was arrested in May for possession of marijuana or marijuana products and that he was homeless when he was taken into custody.
