100-Year Birthday Celebration With The American Red Cross; Centennial Celebration Mural On The Circle

Last updated on Thursday, October 13, 2016

(INDIANAPOLIS) - As you grow older, it becomes less about getting “stuff,” for your birthday, and more about engaging creatively with the community.

On Saturday, Oct. 15 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., a birthday celebration with lots of paint brushes, will take over Monument Circle, as the community paints the town red, blue, green and a few other colors, literally!

The Red Cross has partnered with Big Car Collaborative, to create an original mural that highlights the history of Indiana and invites novice and veteran painters from across the community to make their mark on Red Cross history.

"Our centenary is a way of high-fiving every person in this community," said Chad Priest, regional CEO of the American Red Cross. "This is a great opportunity for us to reaffirm our mission of preventing and alleviating human suffering in the face of emergencies, by mobilizing the power of volunteers and the generosity of donors. We have a commitment to our volunteers
-a respect for diversity and a deep rooted belief in the valuable role the Red Cross plays in the fabric of our society."

The Mural on the Circle event is free and open to the public. There will be featured drinks, food trucks, live music, life-size games and more! Over 400 nurses from Indiana University Health will re-create the "living" Red Cross image from 1918 at 4 p.m. Then, there will be an intimate VIP reception from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. This exclusive reception will overlook Monument Circle, with attendees receiving complementary drinks and hors d'oeurves, while also having the opportunity to paint a piece of the mural themselves. Tickets for this event can be purchased on our website: http://rdcrss.org/2c4bddm.
