Terre Haute Police Investigating Violent Fraternity Party

Last updated on Wednesday, September 14, 2016

(TERRE HAUTE) - Terre Haute police are investigating a weekend party on the city’s north side that included at least 30 shots fired, two people injured and one arrest.

The Tribune Star reports that the party at the Indiana National Guard Armory involved Indiana State University's Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity.

Police say thousands of people and hundreds of vehicles were on the parking lots of the armory and a nearby high school when authorities arrived around midnight Saturday and observed participants fighting.

A vehicle struck one victim. Another victim sustained cuts from shattered car glass.

The university's vice president for student affairs says the school is looking into the event to ensure both university and Armory regulations and rules were followed.

The party was advertised to people outside of Terre Haute. Police couldn't immediately determine if most attendees were university students.
