(LAKE STATION) - At 6:57 p.m. Friday, a single vehicle crash on I-80/94 west bound just east of the Toll Road/north Ripley exit ramp sent four people to the hospital with one of the passengers being ejected.

Preliminary investigation by Trooper Justin Hansen revealed a 2009 Toyota pickup driven by 21-year-old Luis Diaz of Kalamazoo, Michigan was in the middle lane when he lost control during the heavy rain downpour at that time. The pickup went off the road to the north/right and struck a guard rail, causing the pickup to roll unknown number of times.

21-year-old Alfonzo Balboa II of Kalamazoo, a passenger in the back seat behind the front seat passenger, was asleep not wearing a seat belt and was ejected out of the pickup. The pickup rolled on top of Balboa. Balboa was taken to North Lake Methodist Hospital in Gary with life threatening injuries. He died from his injuries Saturday at Loyola medical Center in Maywood, Illinois.

20-year-old Pedro Diaz of Kalamazoo, a front seat passenger, was wearing a seat belt and was taken to North Lake Methodist Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
