Senator Bayh Proposes Bailout Of Health Insurance Companies To Try And Save Obamacare

Last updated on Friday, September 23, 2016

(INDIANAPOLIS) - With health insurance premiums rising, millions still uninsured, and insurers leaving Obamacare, Evan Bayh, in an interview with CNHI News, proposed spending even more taxpayer money to cover the losses of the insurance companies.

From CNHI News:

Evan Bayh: "I understand there's some provisions in the law that are supposed to allow the companies to participate in those exchanges without losing money," he said. "Congress is so dysfunctional they won't release the funds, and so these companies are left with that choice, so it's obviously not good for the health care market because people need more choices. We should have more competition. The law was designed to bring that about, but they won't release the money to make that happen." (Rob Burgess, "Bayh reflects on Return To The Fray," CNHI News, 9/20/16

"Obamacare is failing Hoosiers, and Evan Bayh's solution is to spend more money," said Indiana Republican Chairman Jeff Cardwell. "Hoosiers should be suspicious of his call for more taxpayer money to insurance companies, since some of them are his lobbying clients."

Blue Cross & Blue Shield has paid Bayh's lobbying firm $60,000 so far in 2016 for Federal Lobbying (Center for Responsive Politics, www.opensecrets.org) and paid $120,000 for Federal Lobbying in 2015.

Bayh has refused to release his personal financial disclosure in an attempt to hide how much he has made and is currently making from his lobbying clients. Evan Bayh has not resigned from DC Lobbying Firm McGuireWoods, hedge fund Apollo Global Marketing, or any of his corporate boards.
