GM Foundation Donates $20,000 To Area Organizations Through Community Grants Program

(KOKOMO) - General Motors Kokomo announced $20,000 in grants to support two Kokomo-area nonprofit organizations through its Community Grants program.

The grant presentation was held during a community update focused on local tornado relief efforts as a result of the recent tornado in Kokomo.

"The organizations that we support are vital in the continued development of the local community, and through the ongoing efforts of the GM Foundation, we are proud to play a part in giving back," said Steve Hartwig, plant manager, GM Kokomo.

Funded by the GM Foundation, the GM Community Grants will support the following Grand Rapids-area organizations and community programs:

"This year, the GM Community Grants program will provide nearly $2 million in funding to hundreds of organizations in 47 communities where GM employees live and work," said GM Foundation Vice President Lori Wingerter. "Through these community grants, the GM is building stronger communities and enriching the lives of its neighbors."

Since its inception in 1976, the GM Foundation has donated hundreds of millions of dollars to American charities, educational organizations and to disaster relief efforts worldwide. The GM Foundation focuses on supporting Education, Health and Human Services, the Environment and Community Development initiatives, mainly in the communities where GM operates. Funding of the GM Foundation comes solely from GM. The last contribution to the GM Foundation was made in 2001.
