Former President George W. Bush Visits Indiana To Boost Young's Campaign

Last updated on Tuesday, September 13, 2016

(INDIANAPOLIS) - Former President George W. Bush was in Indiana Monday to boost U.S. Senate candidate Todd Young, who became an unexpected underdog after Evan Bayh belatedly joined the race.

Bush headlined two fundraisers Monday in Indianapolis and Elkhart.

Young is trying to close a large money advantage held by Bayh, who has nearly $9.5 million in his campaign account.

The Democratic former Indiana governor and U.S. senator entered the race in July after former U.S. Rep. Baron Hill dropped out.

Bush has kept a low profile since leaving office in 2009. The receptions will raise money for Young's general election account, the Indiana Republican Party and a political action committee that supports Young.

Young's campaign had about $1.2 million at the end of June.
