(NASHVILLE, Tenn.) - Facebook, Twitter, Instagram… Almost everyone these has an account or access to social media.
But it's not just about catching up with friends or liking a picture anymore.
"I think the biggest danger is people who are naive to what they are actually doing online," said Bruce Stanley, campus pastor with Spring to Life Ministry.
Stanley specializes in addiction and drug abuse. He has heard about people turning to social media to purchase drugs.
"We are seeing drug dealers using technology to help them facilitate how to get it to people's hands quicker and more accessible," said Stanley.
But as you might guess, it's not always obvious.
"Drug dealers and people online are going to find codes or certain secret languages or websites or things like this so they are not tracked," said Stanley.
For someone looking to buy drugs online, words may have another meaning, according to Emelio Rodriguez, a client with Spring to Life.
"They use word play, things that would be hip to that certain group of people, using key words or phrases to insinuate," said Rodriguez. "It is obvious for the person seeking it."
But it isn't so obvious for the person quickly scanning through. That's why Stanley says next time you see something you don't understand, ask your kids.
"Pay attention to what they are doing because that is the only way you will find out how they are operating and what they are doing," said Stanley.
