Columbus Man Air-Lifted After Off-Road Vehicle Crash

(RIPLEY CO.) - Indiana Conservation Officers are investigating an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) accident that seriously injured one rider Sunday evening.

At approximately 5:35 p.m., 51-year-old Thomas Johnson of Columbus was located pinned under his Artic Cat 500 ATV by other riders. Johnson was found unresponsive. Emergency personnel arrived shortly after to the 900 block of County Road 850 West in Holton and administered CPR.

Johnson was air-lifted to the University of Cincinnati Hospital. The extent of injuries sustained is unknown at this time.

Indiana Conservation Officers, Ripley County Deputies, Fire and EMS personnel arrived shortly after the incident occurred and are currently investigating. It is believed that alcohol may have been a contributing factor.

Indiana Conservation Officers strongly encourage riders to wear a helmet and necessary safety equipment when operating Off-Road Vehicles. It is encouraged to abstain from alcohol when operating any motor vehicle.
