(ANDERSON) - An Anderson woman has been sentenced to nine years in prison in her mother’s neglect-related death.
The (Anderson) Herald-Bulletin reports that 69-year-old Katherine Harvey was sentenced during a hearing Monday as part of plea agreement in the neglect of a dependent case. The term is the maximum sentence.
Harvey was arrested in March after medics found 94-year-old Delores Crowley with multiple bed sores and covered in human and cat feces. Crowley later died from pneumonia and septic shock caused by infected bed sores.
Harvey tearfully pleaded with the judge for a more lenient sentence, saying she misses her mother and is "overwhelmed with grief."
Judge David Happe said Crowley's Crowley's "final days must have been hellish, needlessly so." Prosecutors argued Harvey could have asked for help from social services agencies.
