Last updated on Monday, August 15, 2016

(SHELBURN) - The Indiana State Police and Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office are currently investigating the death of 35-year-old Rustin M. Rehmel of 115 West Broadway Street in Shelburn.

Rehmel was found fully clothed on the living room floor of her home.

Preliminary investigation reveals at approximately 2:36 this morning, the Sullivan County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call from 115 West Broadway in Shelburn. The caller friend stated the female victim was unresponsive. Minutes later, Sullivan County emergency services arrived and determined the female was deceased at the scene.

Detectives believe Rehmel may have been in an altercation at another location and was transported home. At this time, ISP and the Sullivan County Sheriff's Office are conducting many interviews related to this case and foul play has not been ruled out. Officers believe this is an isolated event and there is no danger to the public.

An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday morning, August 16, at 8 a.m. at Terre Haute Regional Hospital. More information will be released as it becomes available.

The lead investigator is ISP Detective Tony Guinn. Assisting are ISP Detectives First Sergeant Jason Fajt and Michael Featherling, ISP Crime Scene Investigators Sergeants Jim Cody, Brandon Mullen, and Jan Kruse, Master Troopers Trooper Troy Cobb and Tom Hanks, Sullivan County Sheriff Clark Cottom and deputies, Sullivan County Deputy Coroner Mary Ann Dudley, Sullivan County Prosecutor John Springer, Sullivan County EMS, Shelburn Fire/Rescue, Farmersburg Town Marshal George McAdams, and Shelburn Town Marshal's Office.
