Man Dies After Ran Over By His Own Tractor

Last updated on Monday, August 8, 2016

(MONTICELLO) - Authorities are investigating the death of a north central Indiana man who apparently was run over by his own tractor.

The White County Sheriff's Office says 62-year-old Jerry Zerth of Monticello was believed to be mowing grass when the incident occurred Friday evening

It says deputies responded to a call reporting a man lying in a rural ditch and a tractor with no driver moving through a field. It says a passerby reported seeing Zerth get run over by the tractor while Zerth was lying in the ditch. Another passerby stopped the tractor and shut it off.

WLFI-TV reports investigators believe Zerth fell from the tractor, and the tractor continued to move.

The incident remains under investigation.
