(OAKLAND CITY) - A criminal investigation is underway surrounding Wood Memorial High School's football team.

Paige Hagan of WFIE reports that all of this unfolded 24 hours after the team had to forfeit to Princeton because the Trojans didn't have enough players.

New information coming forward that's pushing police to stretch this investigation into the previous school year. 14 News spoke with neighbors in Oakland City on Saturday and they say it's put a black eye on the whole community.

Parents and coaches were silent after Friday night lights were shut off in Oakland City. The community is now at a standstill after learning its high school team is now in the center of a developing criminal investigation.

That inquiry advanced into a full-fledged criminal investigation.

Cheif Hensley says his allegations surrounding the football team center around hazing. He says those allegations are possibly criminal in nature, and the alleged activity could involve several victims.

Chief Hensley says Oakland City Police will begin interviewing everyone surrounding the team.

Players, coaches, and parents will meet with investigators. Theprocess could take weeks while officials dissect the information.

Chief Hensley also noted the police will file a report with the prosecutor's office after interviews are completed.

The prosecutor will decide whether to file charges or not.
