Conservation Officers Recover Body Of Fisherman From Hudson Lake

(NEW CARLISLE) - Indiana Conservation Officers responded to Hudson Lake in New Carlisle around 7 a.m. Sunday after a report of a fisherman had fallen out of a boat.

New Carlisle Police, Laporte County Sheriff's Department, New Carlisle Volunteer Fire Department, New Carlisle EMS, Laporte EMS, and Indiana Conservation Officers responded to 8100 block of Lake Shore Drive to attempt to rescue the fisherman. A witness stated he observed the fisherman fall out of the boat and go underwater.

New Carlisle Police Officer Josh Szuba located 71-year-old Howard Fetterer of New Carlisle in 8 feet of water about 100 feet from shore. Laporte County Divers recovered Howard approximately one hour after the initial 911 call.

The fishing boat had personal flotation devices on board however they were not worn.

Indiana Conservation Officers are investigating the incident with the Laporte County Coroner's Office. An initial investigation indicates that this may have been the result of a known medical condition.

Indiana Conservation Officers remind Hoosiers to please wear an appropriate US Coast Guard approved personal floatation device when on or around our waterways.
