Indiana Conservation Officers Locate Body In Lake Tippecanoe

Last updated on Thursday, July 21, 2016

(LAKE TIPPECANOE) - Indiana Conservation Officers have located the body of 70-year-old John J. Forbes of Chicago around 9:25 p.m. Wednesday, 12 days after he went missing below the water in Lake Tippecanoe.

Conservation Officers utilized an underwater remotely operated vehicle (ROV) brought up from the Ohio River to verify a location marked with a side scan sonar. Once the mark was verified, the victim was then brought to the surface by Divers from the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department.

According to the preliminary investigation, John Forbes was swimming on Lake Tippecanoe off a Tri-Toon boat with his family when he went under the water and never resurfaced.

An autopsy has been scheduled for Thursday.

Conservation Officers want to remind everyone to wear a coast guard approved life jacket every time you're on or near the water.
