(INDIANAPOLIS) - The INDATA Project at Easter Seals Crossroads is offering a free full-day training program for those individuals interested in learning how assistive technology is helpful for those people who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing.
"Assistive Technology for People who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing" takes place Friday, August 19 from 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. in the fifth floor conference room at Easter Seals Crossroads, located at 4740 Kingsway Drive in Indianapolis.
An audiologist from the Indiana School for the Deaf and representatives from Family and Social Services Administration (FSSA) Deaf & Hard of Hearing Services will present an overview on what assistance is available to meet the needs of Deaf and Hard of Hearing individuals and their families in Indiana.
Deaf & Hard of Hearing Services will also present on phone-related technologies; Indiana Telephone Relay Access Corporation (InTRAC) will present on CapTel captioned telephones and TTY (text telephone); and Hear Indiana will present on amplification systems.
"We are both honored and excited to have all these organizations coming together for a training focused on the Deaf and Hard of Hearing communities and what types of assistive technology can help assist these individuals in becoming more independent," said INDATA Project Director Brian Norton.
Anyone interested in learning more about the use of assistive technology to assist individuals who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing should attend. This includes vocational rehabilitation counselors, social workers, parents, educators, students, professionals and healthcare providers.

The INDATA Project at Easter Seals Crossroads provides information and access to assistive technology, at no charge, for Hoosiers with disabilities. These statewide services are derived through the Indiana Assistive Technology Act (INDATA) state/federal grant and include: device demonstrations, device loans, recycled computers, reutilized assistive technology equipment, alternative financing resources, and educational trainings and conferences.
