Comcast Customers Soon Will Be Able To Watch Netflix Through Cable Box

Last updated on Thursday, July 7, 2016

(UNDATED) - Comcast customers will soon be able to watch Netflix through their cable set-top box.

The two companies announced the deal Tuesday, saying more work needs to be done before the service will be available sometime later this year.

Comcast and other cable providers have viewed Netflix as a competitive threat as people have cut the cable cord and turned to the internet to get their entertainment.

This is not the first time Netflix will be available on cable-tv boxes, but this deal has the potential to expand Netflix's reach at a time when its growth is slowing down in the U.S.

Netflix already has 47 million U.S. subscribers, making it more difficult to find new customers.

It's likely Comcast will get a cut of each new subscriber that signs up for Netflix through their cable set-top box.
