Ball State Students Create Art In Yorktown

Last updated on Friday, July 15, 2016

(YORKTOWN) - Ball State University architecture students are building a piece of public art in the eastern Indiana community of Yorktown that is meant to be a gateway to a trail system.

The Muncie Star Press reports the structure is a collaboration between the university's architecture program and the Yorktown Arts Council. Architecture professor Sean Burns said the project gives the students real-world experience in a design build class that follows Ball State's hands-on learning mission.

Jennifer Groves, the head of the Yorktown Arts Council, says the council wanted something that would catch people's attention and could be seen within the first year. She says she hopes the project that could be completed by the end of the month won't be the last time the two organizations work together.
