(INDIANAPOLIS) - The IU Natatorium has a different look after a $20 million renovation.

The updates are the first major changes to the facility since it opened more than 30 years ago. The renovations were finished just in time for the IU Natatorium to host the 2016 Olympic Diving Trials later this month.

Here's a breakdown of the new/updated features:

  • Roof replaced
  • Diving towers widened to meet synchronized diving standards
  • Modernized locker rooms
  • New heating/cooling and pool filtration systems
  • New starting blocks installed
  • Enhanced interior design
  • Expanded pro shop
  • Mechanical repairs
  • Work on all of the updates wrapped-up earlier this month, and it took nearly two years to complete the multi-phase project.

Officials with the Natatorium said athletes who have seen the new updates are more than pleased with them.

"They're absolutely thrilled about this new facility the walk in, their eyes light up. Especially people who have been coming here for years and years," said Executive Director Michael Howe.
