(INDIANAPOLIS) - The Indiana Trails Advisory Board (TAB) has won an award for 2016 Outstanding State Recreational Trails Advisory Committee.
The award is a part of the Coalition for Recreational Trails Annual Achievement Awards. The winner is chosen by the awards committee of the National Association for State Parks Directors.
The TAB is composed of 15 volunteer board members who represent various trail-user groups. The Indiana TAB ensures that the state receives more than $1.2 million annually in grant funding from the Federal Highway Administration for the state's Recreational Trail Program.
The DNR Division of Outdoor Recreation administers the grant funding to applicants for both non-motorized and motorized trail-development projects. Since 1994, nearly $19 million in Recreational Trails Program funds have been invested in Indiana trails.
The Indiana TAB also advises DNR director Cam Clark on important trail matters. The board meets four times a year to discuss issues and share ideas, resources and news. Meetings are held throughout the state so the board can see different trail projects and participate in outdoor recreation activities together.
"This award really speaks to the Indiana Trails Advisory Board's willingness to work together to improve our state's trail network" said Amy Marisavljevic, DNR streams and trails specialist, who works with the TAB. "It is great to see all the work done by our current and past TAB members recognized nationally with this honor."
At a ceremony in Washington D.C. on June 8, The Coalition for Recreational Trails presented the award to Pat Martin, TAB vice chair and pedestrian representative from Terre Haute.
