(HARRISON CO.) - Indiana Conservation Officers are investigating after a grave was unearthed in a rural cemetery in Harrison County. With no suspects, Conservation Officers are seeking help from the public, in hopes of bringing justice to the person or persons who destroyed the gravesite.
Earlier this spring, Indiana Conservation Officers were called to a vast, wooded tract of land in southeastern Harrison County, where a landowner had made a startling discovery. The gravesite of Nancy Brown, who died in 1881, at the age of 47, had been completely exhumed.
Indiana Conservation Officers, along with the Indiana Department of Natural Resources Archaeologists, conducted a survey of the gravesite and collected evidence, which was sent to the laboratory for analysis. Due to the remote location of the cemetery, an exact timeframe of when the damage occurred is unknown.
The Harrison County Public Library Genealogy Department lent their assistance with tracing genealogy of Brown's family. To date, no living relative has been located.
