Greenwood Couple Arrested After Police Say They Gave Teens Alcohol And Drugs

Last updated on Wednesday, June 1, 2016

(GREENFIELD) - A Greenfield couple was arrested after admitting to police that they gave drugs and alcohol to teens at their home.

47-year-old Marty Bogardus and 60-year-old Lisa Borgardus were both charged with maintaining a common nuisance and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Mr. Bogardus is also charged with child exploitation. Detectives say a parent found inappropriate text message on his child's phone and reported it to police.

Court papers reveal a teen told detectives that Bogardus asked her to send him nude pictures and even offered her money to expose herself.

As many as a dozen teens told investigators that they have been going to the Greenfield home on a weekly basis to get drunk and smoke marijuana.

Court papers reveal some of the teens were as young as 13 years old and reportedly had been going to the home for eight months.

When detectives questioned Mrs. Bogardus, she told them the only reason she allowed the children to drink alcohol and smoke marijuana was "that they had nowhere else to go and she felt that she was providing a safe environment for them."

Police say there is never a safe environment for children 13, 14, 15 years old to be given alcohol. There is never a safe environment for children 13, 14, 15 years old to be exposed to and be using illegal drugs and so that's just not an excuse.
