Four Hurt When Amish Buggy Flips After Being Struck By Vehicle

Last updated on Wednesday, June 1, 2016

(MILLERSBURG) - Police in northern Indiana say four people, including a 6-week-old baby, were aboard an Amish buggy when it flipped after being struck by a vehicle.

The Elkhart County Sheriff's Department says the accident happened Sunday afternoon north of Millersburg. The Elkhart Truth reports the vehicle's driver became distracted and didn't notice the horse-drawn buggy. The vehicle was unable to stop before striking the buggy and flipping it.

A man, woman and the baby were ejected from the buggy. The family and their driver were taken to Indiana University Health Goshen Hospital. They suffered abrasions, cuts and road burn. The baby was checked but no specific injuries were reported.

The driver suffered facial cuts and was cited for driving too fast for conditions and failing to signal a lane change.
