Columbus Man Arrested After Stealing $600 Of Alcohol From Grocery Store

(COLUMBUS) - Columbus police arrested a man Monday afternoon after he allegedly stole hundreds of dollars of alcohol from a grocery store.

Officers responded to Kroger located at 3110 North National Road in regards to a theft at approximately 4:50 p.m. According to a store employee, the suspect grabbed multiple bottles of liquor totaling nearly $600 and fled the store to a vehicle waiting near an exit.

Officers tracked down the suspect vehicle a short time later as it pulled up to a residence in the 900 block of California Street. The officers noticed several bottles of liquor in the backseat of the vehicle while speaking with the suspects. They also noticed that the passenger, 30-year-old Christopher Bryant, was attempting to hide a syringe.

Bryant fled from officers on foot. Moments later Bryant was found hiding in a nearby shed. He was taken into custody.

Bryant was transported to the Bartholomew County Jail on the following preliminary charges: theft, resisting law enforcement, criminal mischief, and possession of a legend drug injection device.

The incident remains under investigation.
