Woman Arrested After Passing Tobacco-Filled Tennis Ball Into Prison

Last updated on Friday, May 27, 2016

(PLAINFIELD) - A woman was arrested after police say she tried to pass tobacco-filled tennis balls into the Plainfield Correctional Facility.

A prison guard spotted Christy Buis dressed in black, running from the facility's compost building around 2:33 a.m. Tuesday.

After a foot chase, Buis was arrested.

When the prison searched the grounds, they found five tennis balls that they say Buis had stashed.

During an interview with police, Buis told police she was contacted by an unknown person and told to drive from Muncie to Indianapolis, pickup an unknown male at a gas station, and drive him to the Plainfield facility to throw items over the fence.

She also told police that she was told to distract the patrolling officers in order for the alleged man to complete the mission without distractions.

Buis was arrested and charged with trafficking with an inmate and possession of paraphernalia.
