State Police Investigating Death Of Inmate At Pendleton Correctional Facility

(PENDLETON) - Indiana State Police are investigating the death of an inmate hours after he barricaded himself inside his cell at a central Indiana facility.

Pendleton Correctional Facility Superintendent Dushan Zatecky says 32-year-old Justin Addler of Crawfordsville died at St. Vincent's Anderson Regional Hospital about 4:15 p.m. Monday.

Just after 1 p.m. 32-year-old Justin Addler barricaded himself in his cell and showed a weapon. He refused orders from staff members to put the weapon down and was placed in restraints.

Addler was escorted to the Health Care Center where he was given medical treatment. He was later taken to a hospital for observation. While at the hospital Addler was found in an unresponsive state. Lifesaving procedures were performed, but Addler was pronounced dead at 4:17 p.m.

Addler was originally from Crawfordsville. He was sentenced out of Tippecanoe County for dealing in cocaine and carrying a handgun without a license. His scheduled release date was April 6, 2026.

The cause of death was being investigated. Results from an autopsy and toxicology test were pending.
