Reality Show Leads To Deputies Being Fired

Last updated on Tuesday, May 24, 2016

(JEFFERSONVILLE) - A southern Indiana sheriff says five corrections officers have been fired and four have resigned over the past five months, mostly as a result of a reality show.

Clark County Sheriff Jamey Noel says the departures occurred during the filming of A&E's "60 Days In." The show followed seven people who volunteered to go undercover as inmates. The finale of its first season was shown recently.

Noel told The Louisville, Kentucky Courier-Journal on Saturday that some of the officers were terminated for negligence and use of excessive force.

Noel says the show helped the jail because it exposed misbehavior that led to the personnel changes and employee mistakes that could be corrected. He says the show's participants also helped him identify officers who were doing good work.
