(FORT WAYNE) - She had the dress, the hair and the nails. All Sequayah needed to make her prom an unforgettable event was her date, but she wasn’t worried about that detail.
You wouldn't know it from looking at her Saturday night, but the 17-year-old Northrop High School student has been undergoing chemotherapy treatment for Lupus. The chronic, autoimmune disease affects her brain and her muscles.
Megan Little of WANE reports, Indianapolis Colts Tight End Dwayne Allen was visiting the hospital and stopped by.
Back in February, Sequayah was at Riley's Hospital for Children. That's where she met her date.
Sequayah kept a photo from last year's prom in her room. Allen told her that day, if she was healthy enough and wanted a good looking prom date to give him a call.
"And then she actually hit me up," Allen said.
Sequayah spent the morning of prom getting pampered. She had her hair and nails done before she went to dinner with a group of friends.
Allen and Sequayah reunited at Fort Wayne International Airport before heading off to the dance in a stylish, Mercedes sprinter van.
"This is exciting. I was excited waiting for this day," Sequayah said.
"It's all about her," Allen explained. Despite the weather messing with some of their plans, he said at the end of the day that doesn't matter, "as long as she has a great time."
Dressed like they were headed to the Oscars, they pulled up to the Coliseum and Sequayah took her date to prom. Allen knew his dance moves would be rusty, but he was hoping he wouldn't embarrass her.
"It's been a while for me, but I'm hoping some of the dance moves come out tonight, they relive themselves," Allen said swaying side to side.
