(DELAWARE CO.) - Indiana Conservation Officers are investigating a dirt bike accident in Delaware County that resulted in injuries to three juveniles.

The dirt bike was being driven on the road by a 10-year-old male, with a 9-year-old female passenger sitting behind him. As the driver was going down the road, his 4-year-old sister stepped out in front of him and was struck by the dirt bike.

Both the mother of the siblings and the mother of the 9-year-old were nearby, but out of sight of the children when it occurred.

State law requires that any operator under the age of 14 must have immediate adult supervision. It is also a violation for anyone to operate an off-road vehicle on a public roadway in Delaware County.

All three children were taken by ambulance to IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie. The 10-year-old driver required stitches to his face and sustained several other cuts and scrapes.

The 9-year-old passenger suffered a broken arm. The 4-year-old victim required stitches to her knee and face and sustained scrapes to her back. None of the injuries were life-threatening.

Other agencies responding to the accident included the Delaware County Sheriff's Dept., Delaware County EMS, Gaston Fire, and Salem Township Fire.

Indiana Conservation Officers want to remind the public to never allow young children to be operating off-road vehicles where they are out of sight, or in an unsafe manner.
