Authorities Capture Escaped Indiana Inmate, Girlfriend In Texas

Last updated on Thursday, May 5, 2016

(CROWN POINT) - An escaped northern Indiana inmate and his girlfriend have been captured by authorities in Texas.

A statement from the Lake County Sheriff's Department says 22-year-old Richard Campos of East Chicago and 20-year-old Elysia Jeronimo of Hammond were taken into custody in San Antonio on Tuesday.

Campos and Jeronimo were charged Monday with felony escape. Court documents show Campos and Jeronimo came up with a plan on April 28 to help him escape from the Lake County jail on April 30 when he was on laundry duty.

A sheriff's department spokesman says three county corrections officers have been put on administrative leave and could face termination pending an investigation of the escape.

The sheriff's department plans to file for the couple's extradition.
