(INDIANAPOLIS) - The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Indiana Holiday Commission, the Indiana Civil Rights Commission, the Indianapolis Jewish Community Relations Council and the Bureau of Jewish Education announced today that the 18th Annual State of Indiana Holocaust Observance will be held on Wednesday, at 12:30 p.m. in the North Atrium of the Indiana Statehouse in Indianapolis.

This year's program titled, "Words Can Hurt, Words Can Heal: Why My Voice Matters", will give attendees a candid look at how the harm done by speech is even worse than the harm done by stealing or by cheating someone: money lost can be repaid, but the harm done by speech can never be repaired.

Holocaust survivor and founder of the CANDLES Holocaust Museum, Eva Kor, will give a very special Keynote address titled, "Forgiveness: A way from Auschwitz."

The program will also include remarks by Indiana Lt. Governor Eric Holcomb; Glenda Ritz, Superintendent of Public Instruction; Judy Failer, President of the Indianapolis Jewish Community Relations Council; and Richard A. Hite, Executive Director of the Indiana Civil Rights Commission.

Prior to the 12:30 pm program in the Statehouse, 200 middle school students will participate in an Educational Youth Summit at the Indiana Government Center. For more information about the Youth Summit, or the Statehouse program, call (317) 232-2651.

The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Indiana Holiday Commission was created by statute to commemorate the life and works of Dr. King. One meaningful method of preserving his legacy is through the commission of acts of service that meet fundamental community needs.
